After his visit to Japan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has now reached Tianjin city of China, where he is participating in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO Summit 2025). Leaders of more than 20 countries and heads of 10 international organizations, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, will attend this summit.
Importance of SCO Summit 2025 and Modi-Jinping Meeting
PM Modi has reached China for the first time after 2018. During this, he will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Putin and other leaders. Experts believe that this meeting can prove to be important in terms of regional and global peace.
SCO started in 1996 as Shanghai Five and is now one of the largest multilateral organizations in the world. The population of SCO member countries is 43% of the world and their contribution to the global economy is 23%.
Why is Trump eyeing it?
Former US President Donald Trump has already announced to impose 50% tariff on India. In such a situation, the agenda of Modi-Jinping Meeting and SCO Summit is very important for America. Analysts say that Trump will see this summit from the perspective of China’s growing global influence.
The SCO Summit is taking place at a time when the Russia-Ukraine war and Israel-Hamas conflict are ongoing. At the same time, Trump’s tariff decision has further intensified the global trade war. Because of this, the US will keep an eye on every conversation between India and China.
Which countries will have a big role?
The presence of leaders of Russia, Pakistan, Iran, Belarus, Tajikistan and Central Asian countries in the summit is making it more important. At the same time, top leaders of Turkey, Myanmar, Nepal and Malaysia can also attend it.
After the SCO Summit, a huge military parade will also be held in Beijing on September 3, in which leaders like Putin and Lukashenko will participate. However, Prime Minister Modi will not participate in this parade.
Impact on US and India-China relations
The US sees the SCO as a platform where China wants to present itself as a leader of the Global South. On the other hand, India will try to strengthen regional stability and national interests through its balanced foreign policy.
