ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (TCN) — A man has been charged with two counts of open murder after he reportedly told authorities that a cockroach delivered an “encrypted message” ordering him to kill.
On Nov. 7, The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunfire in Albuquerque’s South Valley. When they arrived at a home, Alexis Hernandez, 25, opened the door armed with a gun and a Marine Corps saber, the Albuquerque Journal reports. He claimed he was a Marine and told officers there were two dead men in the house.
Deputies found two bodies in the home, each with apparent gunshot wounds. Three other adults and two children were also located at the scene. The adults were questioned and the children were removed from the home.
Hernandez was arrested and taken into custody on two open counts of murder in connection with a double homicide, the Albuquerque Journal reports.
In a criminal complaint, Hernandez told detectives in an interview that he believed he was being stalked by the property owner and heard “creepy voices” coming from the vents, the New York Post reports.
He reportedly claimed he had gotten an “encrypted message from a cockroach” to kill the two men and that he feared for his life. After allegedly shooting them, he went outside to reload his gun and allegedly shot them again.
The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s office said homicide detectives have taken over the investigation. The victims’ identities will be released after their families are notified.
