Afghanistan Earthquake: 6.0 magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan, 250 killed and 500 injured

Afghanistan Earthquake caused massive destruction in Nangarhar province. 250 people died and more than 500 were injured, tremors were felt till Delhi-NCR.

Afghanistan Earthquake caused massive destruction in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province late Sunday night. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the magnitude of the earthquake was 6.0 and its epicenter was at a depth of 8 kilometers near Jalalabad.

Nangarhar Public Health Department spokesman Naqibullah Rahimi confirmed that so far 250 people have died, while more than 500 people have been injured. The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Second tremor 20 minutes after Afghanistan Earthquake

At 11:47 pm local time, the second tremor was felt about 20 minutes after the first earthquake. The magnitude of this earthquake was 4.5 and the depth was 10 kilometers. The continuous tremors spread panic among the local people and houses collapsed in many areas.

Tremors felt in India and Pakistan too

The earthquake was so strong that its tremors were also felt in Delhi-NCR of India and many areas of Pakistan. People shared information about strong tremors on social media.

Afghanistan Earthquake for the fifth time in the last one month

It is worth noting that Afghanistan has been shaken by earthquake for the fifth time in the last one month.

  • An earthquake of 5.4 magnitude occurred on August 27.
  • Tremors of 4.9 magnitude were felt on August 17, 4.2 magnitude on August 13 and 4.3 magnitude on August 8.

According to experts, Afghanistan is an earthquake prone area and strong tremors are often recorded here on the Richter scale.
