ATLANTA (TCN) — A mother has been charged with murder after she allegedly intentionally poisoned her infant with alcohol.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by WXIA, police found an unconscious, unresponsive child in a home on Oct. 15, 2025. The child, named in the affidavit as Baby Nova, did not show any other signs of physical trauma. He was taken to a children’s hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead.
The medical examiner’s office found Baby Nova’s blood alcohol level was 0.179, twice the legal limit for an adult driver, according to WXIA.
Baby Nova’s mother, 37-year-old Omayrilin Colon, initially denied giving the child alcohol and claimed she had only put formula in his bottle, WXIA reports.
According to AOL, medical officials said Baby Nova had ingested alcohol that had not passed to him from Colon’s breast milk. The type of alcohol in the bottle has not been released.
Law & Crime reports police obtained an arrest warrant for Colon after the toxicology report came back. She was arrested Jan. 29 and charged with murder and first-degree cruelty to children, and she remains in custody without bond. The authorities have not released a motive. Colon’s next court date has not yet been scheduled.
